The resonator stone before her was a jagged monolith of raw starlight crystal, suspended three feet in the air by magnetic leylines. To ignite it required more than standard mana; it demanded that the initiate synchronize their soul's pulse with the dying frequency of distant supernovas.
She raised both palms toward the crystal.
Instantly, the dormant runes beneath her skin flared with violet fire. A shockwave rippled outwards, kicking up clouds of pulverized quartz. The crystal monolith didn't just glow—it ignited into a roaring pillar of amethyst incandescence that shattered the containment wards like fragile glass.
Gasps echoed from the council dais. Archmage Thaddeus stood up so abruptly his ornate celestial chalice clattered across the iron floor. "Contain the perimeter!" he roared. "She is drawing from the Forbidden Sector!"
Spells clashed across the air as five Battle Mages leaped from the parapets, their spears crackling with lightning suppression coils. But Vesper could no longer hear their commands. In her mind's eye, the veil of the material plane was peeling back like parchment, exposing a galaxy of burning silver gears and celestial dragons that had been sleeping beneath the academy's foundation.
"Do not look away," a voice echoed through her consciousness—ancient, feminine, and terrifyingly vast. "The throne of the constellations was stolen. Take it back."
